Background

Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher investigating microbial evolutionary genomics with Eduardo PC Rocha at the Atelier de Bioinformatique and Institut Pasteur, Paris, France.

Recently, I completed (June 25th, 2008) my Phd in Computer Science at the Algorithmics & Genetics Group, Department of Computer Science, at the Technical University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain. Previously, I spent some time at the Univerisity of Santiago de Compostela with Javier Bruguera investigating FPGAs as graphic rendering devices. Before heading to Spain, I was a Software Engineer at Baldwin, Hackett, & Meeks, Inc. I received my undergraduate degree in 2002 from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in Computer Science.

Research

My principal area of research interest is in microbial genome dynamics and evolution, specifically studying in silico the abundance, origin and fate of the various types of sequences contained inside prokaryote genomes. Additionally, I am highly interested in investigating novel methods for de novo repeat detection inside (meta) genomic data and identifying and visualizing highly conserved (core) regions inside large clades of closely related genomes.
